Clearances
If excessive clearance exists between the cylinder wall
or the shaft and the component supporting the female
adapter, operating pressure will extrude the adapter into
the clearance. The greater the pressure and clearance,
the more quickly extrusion will occur. In a clean system,
where concentricity requirements are met, and where
minimum clearances are held, optimum seal life can be
expected.
