Graphite Yarn Packings
Graphite Filament Packing
Interbraid construction. Manufactured from pure graphite yarns impregnated
with a fine submicron powder of inorganic graphite. A surface lubricant is
applied to prevent wicking and to provide a bearing film between the shaft and
the packing material. Recommended for valves, high speed shafts, agitator
shafts, reciprocating rods and plunger rods wherever minimum product leakage
is required under severe service conditions. For strong acids and strong
caustics throughout the full pH range. It is virtually inert. Not recommended for
oleum, fuming nitric acid and fluorine. Temperatures up to 6,000°F/3,316°C in non-oxidizing agents, 1200°F/649°C in
steam, and 800°F/427°C in oxidizers. Use wherever downtime costs are too great to permit the use of mechanical seal
replacement. Installed and maintained properly, this packing can run on little or no leakage. Packaged in 1 lb. boxes
which cannot be broken.

Carbon Yarn Packings
Carbon Fiber with Graphite Coating
Interbraid construction. A unique combination of amorphous carbon yarns
treated throughout with fine particles of graphite. Recommended for general
service rotating and reciprocating shafts, high temperature valves. For all
chemical services in which carbon is suitable. For shaft speeds up to 3,000 FPM;
temperatures to 650°F/345°C in oxidizing atmospheres; 1200°F/650°C in steam;
pH range 0-14 except in strong oxidizers. An excellent alternative in applications
where asbestos packings are not permitted and graphite yarn packings are too
expensive. Does not have quite the low coefficient of friction and the heat
conductivity of pure graphite filaments, but carbon yarns treated with graphite
exhibit better heat conductivity and frictional characteristics than either asbestos
or TFE. Packaged in 10 lb. boxes which may be broken for smaller orders.

Carbon Filament/TFE Packing
Interbraid construction. A carbon filament packing treated with TFE to prevent
color contamination and carbon migration. Each individual strand of the carbon
yarn is treated and impregnated with a TFE suspensoid, totally encapsulating the
packing to prevent carbon filaments from migrating into the pumpage.
Recommended for pulp mill equipment, steaming vessels, top separators, refiners,
outlet devices, blow pumps, stock pumps, agitators and valves. For most chemical
services, except strong oxidizers. Shaft speeds to 2,400 FPM; temperatures to
600°F/345°C; pH range 0-14. Packaged in 10 lb. boxes which may be broken for
smaller orders.
